Fourth-ranked Baylor knocks off Ole Miss 5-2

OXFORD, Miss. - Baylor freshman righthander Steven White allowed only four hits and held the Rebels scoreless until the seventh inning to lift the No. 4 nationally-ranked Bears to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Ole Miss on Tuesday.
White (3-0) went 6 1/3 innings for the Bears (16-3), striking out four and walking five. Kyle Edens picked up his third save of the season with 2 2/3 innings of work. Ole Miss senior righthander Joey Cramblitt (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going six full innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Cramblitt tied a career high with eight strikeouts for the Rebels (10-4).
Baylor jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first five innings of play. After scoring a run in the second and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead, the Bears opened up the contest with a three-run fifth. Mike Huggins began the frame reaching first on an error. After a Jace Brewer single moved Huggins to second, Steve Dorneman doubled to left center to plate Huggins for a 3-0 Bear advantage. Kelly Shoppach then singled to score both Brewer and Dorneman for a 5-0 lead.
The Rebels got on the scoreboard with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the seventh. Chad Hill led off the seventh with a double down the leftfield line, and after a Lance Jones walk, scored when Craig Nugen also doubled to left field. Jones scored the Rebels' final run when he crossed the plate on an A.J. Cochet sacrifice fly to right field.
Hill led Ole Miss at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance, including a double. Jaime Bubela, Brewer and Shoppach all batted 2-for-4 to pace the Baylor offense.
Ole Miss and Baylor will close out their mid-week, two-game series on Wednesday at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
