| WHY DEUCE? | |||||||||||||||||||||||
His full name is Dulymus Jenod McAllister, but Ole Miss fans know him better as Deuce. The first name is pronounced "Duymus" ... the "l" is silent. Although he's just been "Deuce" to a lot of people since the ninth grade when he started wearing No. 2, his mom, Cornelia, still calls him Dulymus. "My name was so hard to say that one of my high school coaches started calling me 'Deuce'," McAllister recalls. "The coach was a big Alabama fan and he really liked David Palmer, who wore No. 2 and placed third in the 1993 Heisman Trophy race." When McAllister arrived at Ole Miss prior to the 1997 season, No. 2 wasn't available, because veteran strong safety Ronnie Heard was already wearing the number. The next best thing was No. 22, so McAllister took "Double Deuce." | |||||||||||||||||||||||
