BATON ROUGE, La. - Jon Zeringue went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Blake Gill was 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead No. 8 LSU to 14-6 win over Ole Miss to even this weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series, in front of 7,810 at Alex Box Stadium.

Senior right-hander Bo Pettit (6-1) overcame a shaky start to work 7 2/3 innings and earn the win. He was touched for six runs in the first three innings, including a two-run home run by Charlie Waite in the third that gave the Rebels a 6-5 lead. However, Pettit would settle down to retire 14 straight batters following Waite's home run before issuing a lead-off walk to Seth Smith in the eighth. He was relieved by Billy Sadler after walking Barry Gunther to load the bases with two outs in the eighth.

Pettit was charged with six runs on eight hits and three walks and struck out three.

Sadler coaxed Bryce Morrison to pop out to short to end the Rebels' threat in the eighth and preserve LSU's 11-6 lead. He would then pitch a scoreless ninth to notch his first save of the year.

"Pettit really settled in when he started throwing mostly fastballs," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "We couldn't get the barrel on the ball. He challenged our hitters and we weren't able to handle it."

Zeringue put LSU in front, 7-6, with a two-out, two-run double in the fifth. The Tigers then plated three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to go up 11-6.

Gill hit his third home run of the year with a lead-off shot in the eighth to make it 12-6 and Zeringue added a two-run blast later in the inning for the 14-6 final.

Redshirt freshman right-hander Anthony Cupps (3-1) was charged with the loss. He allowed four runs on five hits and two walks in 4.0 innings of relief for starter Mark Holliman, who was chased in the second.

The two teams will play three rubber-match of this weekend's series Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. With a win, Ole Miss can earn its first series victory over LSU at Alex Box Stadium since 1982. Redshirt freshman Eric Fowler (1-1, 3.53 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound for Ole Miss, while LSU is expected to counter with junior right-hander Nate Bumstead (4-1, 5.13 ERA). The game can be heard locally in Oxford on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi 105.5 FM and on stations along the Ole Miss Radio Network, beginning at 12:45 p.m.,with David Kellum and Richard Cross.
