BATON ROUGE, La. - Clay Harris went 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs to lead No. 8 LSU to a 13-5 win over Ole Miss Sunday afternoon in front of 7,682 at Alex Box Stadium, in the rubber-match of the weekend's three-game Southeastern Conference series.
Harris hit a three-run home run in the first inning to put the Tigers (24-11-1, 11-3-1 SEC) up 3-0 and added a two-run blast in the fifth to make it 8-2 and chase Rebel starter Eric Fowler from the game.
Junior right-hander Nate Bumstead (5-1) struck out 10 over 8.0 innings to earn the win. He held Ole Miss (21-14, 8-7 SEC) to two run s on three hits and two walks.
Fowler (1-2) was charged with eight runs, six earned, on nine hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings in suffering the loss.
Shortstop Aaron Hill went 3-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored, and third baseman Ivan Naccarata was 1-for-4 with three RBIs as 10 different LSU players recorded at least one hit.
The Tigers out-hit the Rebels 17-7 on the afternoon, with 17 hits being the most allowed by the Rebel pitching staff this season.
Brian Pettway went 1-for-3 for the Rebels (21-14, 8-7 SEC) and hit his fifth home run of the year with a solo shot in the second that pulled Ole Miss to within 3-1.
The Rebels scored three runs in the ninth off LSU reliever Jordan Faircloth for the 13-5 final.
Ole Miss will return to action Tuesday night when the Rebels open a 10-game homestand against Southeastern Louisiana at 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. Tuesday's game will be the first of two against Lions before Ole Miss will host Alabama in a three-game SEC series beginning Friday night.
