OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman right-hander Anthony Cupps pitched six scoreless innings as three Ole Miss pitchers combined for a 7-0 shutout of Tennessee-Martin Tuesday evening, in front of 1,504 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
With the win, Ole Miss improved to 25-16 on the year. UT-Martin dropped to 12-19-1.
Cupps (4-2) scattered five hits and struck out three in his six innings of work to earn the win.
Mark Holliman then pitched two innings of relief and Nick Bradshaw worked a perfect ninth to close out the game.
Freshman first baseman Stephen Head went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead Ole Miss' 10-hit attack. Head hit his fifth home run of the year with a solo shot in the fourth inning to give the Rebels a 1-0 lead. He later added an RBI single in the seventh to make it 5-0 and spark a three-run inning.
Chad Sterbens also had two hits and an RBI to extend his hitting streak to nine games, and sophomore Barry Gunther was 2-for-4.
Catcher Ryan Bethel went 2-for-2 for the Skyhawks.
Ole Miss will continue its 11-game homestand Wednesday evening when the Rebels host Memphis at 6:30 p.m., at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
