Rebel Men Open in Gold 8K Race at 8 a.m. CT Saturday Morning

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ole Miss men's and women's cross country return to action this weekend at Louisville's Live in Lou Classic set for Saturday morning.

The Rebels will face their first non-conference competition of this truncated 2020 season against the likes of Appalachian State, Charlotte, Marshall, Notre Dame and West Virginia. Additionally, Ole Miss will be able to go head-to-head against two more SEC foes who were not at LSU's SEC Preview on Sept. 19 in Kentucky and Tennessee.

A showdown between the Rebels and Fighting Irish will be of particular note. Both placed their men's and women's programs in the top-25 of the NCAA Championships last season, with Ole Miss taking 21st in the women's race and 22nd in the men's race, while the Notre Dame men took eighth and the women 15th overall. Ole Miss is one of just four programs in the nation to have both its men's and women's programs finish within the top-25 at the NCAA Championships in each of the last four seasons alongside BYU, Colorado and Stanford.

Ole Miss went stride-for-stride in a season-opening heavyweight fight with Arkansas in the men's 6K at the SEC Preview, finishing runner-up narrowly by a score of 29-37. Junior Mario Garcia Romo led the Rebel charge, winning his first career individual title and becoming the second Rebel to ever win USTFCCCA Men's National Athlete of the Week honors in the process. Garcia Romo edged out Arkansas' Emmanuel Cheboson by two seconds for the win at 17:23.3, the top 6K time in the SEC, and led a pack of three Rebel men in the top-10.

The Rebel women also finished runner-up to the defending women's national champions Arkansas at the SEC Preview. Ole Miss put together a strong race of their own, tallying 46 points after placing all five of its scorers within the top-12 spots. Senior Anna Elkin, last season's top NCAA finisher for Ole Miss and an NCAA All-South Region runner, led the way in sixth place at 17:20.7.

Competition begins Saturday with the Men's Gold 8K race at 8 a.m. CT, with the Women's Gold 5K race to follow at approximately 8:45 a.m. CT. Fans can watch live on FloTrack (subscription needed) or follow along with live results HERE.
