Men’s Golf Finishes Play at Cabo Collegiate

Rebels Place 12th in Tough Field
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico – The No. 32 Ole Miss men's golf team wrapped up play at the Cabo Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Jack Gnam paced the Rebels on the final day in Cabo with an even par 71.
The Rebels finished in 12th place after a tough last 18 holes, shooting a 16-over 300 for a three-day total of 24-over (286-290-300—876). No. 9 Arizona State took home the team title at 20-under par, while No. 6 Texas A&M's Walker Lee took home individual honors at 8-under.
"To say that this wasn't our best week would be an understatement," head coach Chris Malloy said. "We did a very poor job of handling tough conditions against a quality field. As I told our guys, we can either let this define us, or we can use it to fuel our fire and use it as a springboard to succeed as we get closer to postseason play. I'm confident that this group will be better from this experience."
Charlie Miller paced the Rebels on the leaderboard, tying for 22nd after a final round 2-over 73. His final 18 featured three birdies during a four-hole stretch on the front nine. The sophomore went 71-69-73—213 to finish at even par for the tournament. Miller has ended up par-or-better in all three tournaments he's played in this season. He led the team in par-5 scoring, going 5-under on the lengthy holes, while carding a team-high 12 birdies throughout the three rounds.
Gnam's final round even par 71 moved him up nine spots into a tie for 26th. Four birdies and four bogeys evened out his round, two of each on both sides of the course. The sophomore finished at 1-over (69-74-71—214) while leading the team in pars with 32. Gnam was second on the team in birdies with 11, and went 3-under on the par 5's and even on the par 3's.
Freshman Veeti Mahonen finished tied for 64th at 12-over (72-77-76—225). He recorded five birdies during the final round.
The Rebels return to the course, March 9-10, for the Lamkin San Diego Classic in Chula Vista, California.
