Stop the Rush
Nope, we aren't talking about stopping the run. Last year's game in Oxford and the 2022 meeting in LSU both ended with the home fans rushing the field. The Tigers are eyeing another Top 10 win at home over the Rebels, but Ole Miss will look to halt the field-rushing trend in the rivalry with a road victory.
Death Valley at Night
LSU's Tiger Stadium at night is famously (or infamously, depending on who you ask) one of college football's most unique and challenging environments. As Ole Miss has learned historically, any win is hard-earned in Baton Rouge, where the Rebels are 24-43-1 (.360) all-time. However, their win percentage is actually higher in night games with a 15-23-1 (.397) record under the lights. Ole Miss last won in Baton Rouge at night in 2001.
Comeback Sauce
If the four meetings of the Lane Kiffin era are any indication, the winner Saturday will have to do it for all four quarters. In 2020, Ole Miss led 48-40 in the final six minutes but fell to a late LSU comeback, 53-48. The Tigers struck first at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in 2021 before the Rebels reeled off 31 unanswered in a 31-17 final. The 2022 meeting in Baton Rouge was similar as Ole Miss opened up a 17-3 lead but saw LSU respond with a 42-3 run and fell 45-20. Last year in Vaught mirrored the 2020 game in Death Valley as LSU led 49-40 in the final six minutes but fell to a late Rebel comeback, 55-49. The home team has won every game in the rivalry during the Kiffin era.
Something's Gotta Give
The Ole Miss defense hasn't allowed more than 20 points this season and has held four of its six opponents to single-digits on the scoreboard. The Rebels are No. 3 in the nation in scoring defense at 7.5 points per game. LSU, meanwhile, has scored 20 or more points in all of its games and is No. 30 nationally in scoring offense at 35.2 points per game and 16th in total offense. As they say, something's got to give.
Up in the Air
In his first two SEC games, Jaxson Dart has faced two of the league's best passing defenses. Both Kentucky and South Carolina are averaging less than 200 yards per game allowed through the air, even with Dart's stats on their books. Now, the Rebel quarterback will face the SEC's worst pass defense statistically. LSU ranks last in the league and No. 93 nationally in pass defense, allowing 236.4 yards per game.
