OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss Baseball (17-8, 3-3 SEC) hosts Austin Peay (15-8, 4-2 ASUN) this Tuesday for a midweek matchup at Swayze Field.
 
LEADING OFF
  • Ole Miss took one out of three games last weekend in a road SEC series against No. 7 Tennessee.
  • On Saturday night, the Rebels went into the ninth inning trailing 5-4 and would end up scoring four runs to win 8-5.
  • Saturday night's win was Ole Miss' first ninth inning comeback win since March 25, 2021 at Alabama.
  • Liam Doyle struck out 10 hitters in the win, becoming the first Rebel since Dylan DeLucia in 2022 to post multiple double-digit strikeout games in a season.
  • He is also now the first Rebel since Doug Nikhazy in 2021 to have double-digit strikeouts in consecutive outings.
  • Andrew Fischer hit two home runs in Saturday night's win, his fourth-career multi-home run game.
  • Freshman Brayden Randle hit his first career home run Friday night and followed it up with his second on Saturday.
  • The Rebels are ranked 11th in the nation in strikeouts per nine, averaging 11.4 punchouts per game.
  • Ole Miss has hit 41 home runs this season, the 24th-highest mark in the NCAA.
  • Andrew Fischer is fifth in the SEC with 11 big flies, averaging about half a home run per game. His .814 slugging percentage is the seventh-highest in the conference.
  • Ole Miss is fifth in the NCAA in walks drawn (172), averaging 6.88 per game. They are one of three SEC teams in the top five.
  • Jackson Ross leads the SEC in walks and walks per game with 26 free passes.
  • Connor Spencer has five saves this season, tied at the top of the SEC with Arkansas' Gabe Gaeckle.
 
SCOUTING REPORT
Roland Fanning is in his second year as head coach for the Governors. Fanning brought 15 seasons of experience as an assistant coach to Austin Peay, including eight combined seasons at Oklahoma State and Kentucky. In Fanning's first year as head coach he added 27 newcomers to the roster.

In 2023, Austin Peay finished with a 26-32 (15-15 ASUN) record which was a seven-win improvement from the previous season. Fanning led the Governors to their first Atlantic Sun Conference tournament appearance where they won one game against Jacksonville State, 16-4.

In the 2024 season, Austin Peay has the Atlantic Sun Conference Preseason Player of the Year, Lyle Miller-Green and Preseason All-ASUN selection Clayton Gray. In addition, Austin Peay revamped its pitching staff during the offseason with 11 newcomers.

Miller-Green, the dual threat outfielder and pitcher, boasts a .386 batting average, has contributed 35 RBIs and 13 HRs to the Governor's books. Green also adds to the Governors bullpen. This season Green has pitched 22 innings, faced 113 batters and has recorded 16 strikeouts.

Clayton Gray, outfielder, contributes a batting average of .340, 23 RBIs, and five home runs to the Governor's lineup. In the 2023 season, Gray finished the season ranked 11th nationally and led the ASUN Conference with 24 doubles and was ranked second in the ASUN with 24 stolen bases.

This will be the ninth meeting between the two teams. The opponents last played in 2021 at Swayze Field where the Rebels walked away with a 13-1 victory against the Governors.
