Men’s Track & Field Records Best SEC Indoor Finish in Program History
2/28/2026 | Track and Field
BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Ole Miss men's track & field rode an all-around great weekend toward its best finish ever at the indoor conference meet, finishing second to cap a historic weekend at the 2026 SEC Indoor Championships.
The No. 11 Rebel men scored 67 points and were originally third – which would have tied for their best-ever indoor finish – but two late disqualifications in the 4x400-meter relays not only dropped No. 5 Texas A&M to 66.2 points, but it also pushed the Ole Miss school record relay to eighth place – good for one point and a 0.8-point edge over the Aggies for the runner-up spot.
The finish ties for the best conference finish overall in Ole Miss track & field history, a second-place showing by the Rebel men outdoors in 1984.
The Ole Miss women, meanwhile, had a solid all-around meet in eighth place at 38.5 points – with the biggest performance of the night coming courtesy of senior Alicia Burnett in the 60-meter dash.
Burnett proved to the track world that her stunning preliminary time of 7.14 was no joke, winning the first SEC 60-meter title in Ole Miss women's history with a resounding final time of 7.08 seconds. That time lands her among the best to ever run both at the SEC level and collegiately, as it broke Ole Miss Olympian McKenzie Long's 2023 record (7.10), tied the SEC meet record and moved her up to No. 10 on the all-time list in collegiate history.
Furthermore, Burnett now enters the national meet in two weeks with the top time in the NCAA in addition to the No. 2 time in the United States and No. 9 time in the world this season.
All-American senior and three-time NCAA Champion Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan won his 11th career SEC title with ease, defending his shot put title and becoming only the fifth three-peater in conference history. This also marks his third consecutive sweep of both the weight throw and shot put after becoming the first to ever do so in 2024 as a sophomore, which earned him the SEC Cliff Harper Trophy for a third straight season.
Robinson-O'Hagan had command of the competition from the jump, but he still found enough to improve on his final round effort of 20.67m/67-09.75 to win the conference crown by nearly two feet. He ends his indoor career with six SEC titles and 72 points scored, and he enters his final outdoor season with 124 total points (13.7 per meet) on top of his 11 career gold medals.
After flirting with danger before winning silver in the weight throw yesterday, junior Akaoma Odeluga put together an impressively consistent field series en route to her second runner-up finish of the weekend.
All six of Odeluga's throws traveled at least 58 feet, including five that went at least 59 – but none better than her sixth-round effort of 18.69m/61-4 that stands as an indoor career-best and moves her up to No. 2 in Ole Miss history and No. 13 in collegiate history indoors. This season, Odeluga now ranks third in the NCAA, fourth among Americans and 13th worldwide on the indoor lists, and her 16 points this weekend earned her a share of the SEC Cliff Harper Trophy.
No performance was arguably more important for the Rebel men's historic finish, though, than the 4x400-meter relay. Running out of heat one, the foursome of Joshua Knox, Cade Flatt, Wesley Todd and Jordan Urrutia passed the stick in 3:06.69, finally taking down the previous school record set in 2004 – and ultimately good enough to score that one crucial point to by the Rebel men into second place.
Other scoring performances came courtesy of: Chase Rose (fourth, 1:48.96) and Max Armstrong (fifth, 1:48.97) in the men's 800-meter; Evan Thornton-Sherman (fifth, 4:03.71) and John Shoemaker (seventh, 4:04.90) in the men's mile; Arvesta Troupe (fifth, 2.19m/7-02.25) in the men's high jump; Sterling Scott (sixth, 16.28m/53-5; No. 2 all-time) and Kyle Johnson (eighth, 15.65m/51-04.25) in the men's triple jump; Aiden Britt (eighth, 7:55.68) in the men's 3K
Up next for Ole Miss will be the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships, this year held at the University of Arkansas. Qualifying lists for the national meet will be released in the coming days.
