Paris’ School Record Highlights Close to Joe Walker Invite

Jaiden Paris Set the Ole Miss Record in the 100-Meter Hurdles

OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss track & field received a school record from senior Jaiden Paris and several other strong performances as it honored 32 total seniors to conclude the 2023 Joe Walker Invitational on Saturday.

Paris won today's hurdles competition at 13.25 (+2.1) to break All-American Teneeshia Jones' 2001 record of 13.27 (+1.0) on the all-time Ole Miss list – which allows up to the NCAA qualifying maximum 4.0 meters per second wind reading. This is the second straight record performance for Paris, who just last week at the Texas Relays set the all-conditions Ole Miss record at a windy 13.16 (+5.9).

For Paris, her latest NCAA wind legal 13.25 (+2.1) puts her No. 21 in the nation, as well as No. 12 in both the East Region and within the SEC.

Ole Miss had a great day overall in the hurdles, as it also received a career day from senior Spencer Brown in the men's 110-meter hurdles. Brown was the runner-up at a career-best 13.77 (+2.4), which ranks him No. 7 on the all-time list in school history. This season, Brown now ranks No. 24 in the NCAA, No. 14 in the East Region and No. 9 in the SEC.

The Rebels took home another event win on the track to close out the day in the men's 4x400-meter relay, with the distance-heavy quartet of Marcus Dropik, Cole Piotrowski, Jacob Lough and Cade Flatt crossing the line in 3:12.51 for the victory.

Senior Daniel Viveros took home an event crown on his senior day in the shot put, winning on his first throw of the day at 17.88m/58-8. Freshman Tarik Robinson-O'Hagan was the runner-up by less than an inch at 17.86m/58-07.25.

Saturday also featured the conclusion of two grueling days of competition for the Ole Miss multi athletes in the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon.

In the heptathlon, senior Sara Van Aken led the way in fifth place at 4,837 points, with fellow senior Meg Goebel ninth at a PR of 4,645 points – putting her No. 14 in school history.

In the decathlon, senior Pierce Genereux finished with a career-high 6,175 points to finish runner-up. That total improves upon his place at No. 7 in Ole Miss history, and he did so by notching either a personal or season best in eight of his 10 total events – including wins in the shot put on Friday (12.63m/41-05.25, PR) and pole vault on Saturday (4.65m/15-3, PR).

Ole Miss will take next week off to prepare for the Virginia Challenge on April 20-22.
