Track & Field with Heavy Presence at U.S. Olympic Trials

6/20/2024 | Track and Field

EUGENE, Ore. – Olympic glory and tickets to Paris are on the line for 16 current and former Ole Miss track & field athletes set to compete in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Trials, held June 21-30 at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.

Those 16 Rebels will be competing in the toughest team trial in the world, which will determine the roster for Team USA at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris. Each country is given no more than three spots per event, so to qualify athletes must finish as one of the top-three athletes with the Olympic qualifying standard. Thus, if an athlete finishes fourth and owns the standard but one of the top-three do not, the third and final qualifying spot goes to the next person with the standard. In the event not enough athletes own the standard in a given event, World Athletics determines how to fill the field on a global scale using its own world ranking system.

The Trials return to Eugene and Hayward Field for the eighth time in its history, joining national qualifying meets also held in 1972, 1976, 1980, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021 – the second in the new version of Hayward Field following renovations that were completed in 2021. In addition to those eight times hosting the U.S. Olympic Trials, Hayward Field has been the site of 19 NCAA Championship meets (1962, '64, '72, '78, '84, '88, '91, '96, 2001, '10, '13, '14, '15, '16, '17, '18, '21, '22), 11 USA Track & Field Championships (1971, '75, '86, '93, '99, 2001, '09, '11, '15, '22, '23) and the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

Fans can watch the action live via the NBC family of networks and the Peacock app. Read below for a full schedule of events and more info on the Rebel U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers.
